Broadband rural priority

RURAL properties outside of Cohuna and Kerang will be connected to the National Broadband Network before the district’s two largest towns.

NBN Co announced last week its latest group of towns added to its rollout program by September 2016, with Bendigo, Echuca-Moama and Swan Hill added to its current list.

The announcement builds on its December 2014 confirmation that works will occur in outlying areas near Kerang and Cohuna.

“The expansion of the rollout reflects the company’s new, flexible multi-technology approach and is an important step toward reaching its goal of connecting eight million premises to the NBN by 2020,” an NBN Co spokesperson said.

It is planned 870 properties located near Cohuna and Kerang will be connected via the network’s fixed wireless service, but the technology used could change following assessment by NBNCo workers.

Fixed wireless technology involves work crews installing reception towers in the district, with properties connected to the network via an antenna.

Although not as fast as the fixed line service, which is being installed throughout major cities, suburbs and regional towns, fixed wireless services will provide download speeds of 25 Megabits per second.

These speeds will enable users to open a website within 0.13 seconds, download a song within three seconds, an album within one minute and a movie within 10 minutes.

NBN Co would not confirm when the works will start, which areas will be connected as part of the first rollout of works, or when the remainder of the Gannawarra Shire will be incorporated into the network.

Federal Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad welcomed the update.

“It’s good to see that the momentum behind the NBN is continuing to grow and with that, works in our region are now scheduled for commencement,” he said.

“All Australians deserve to have access to fast, reliable broadband services, regardless of whether they live in a metropolitan city or in a regional area.”

Updates regarding works will be provided monthly, and will be available at http://梧桐夜网nbnco苏州美甲美睫培训学校419论坛/maps
