ELITE Highlands dressage riders Matthew Dowsley and Brett Parbery will compete at one of Australia’s most prestigious international equestrian events.

The Sydney CDI 3 dressage event will be held at Sydney’s Horsley Park from May 7-9.

It will attract the best riders from across Australia and overseas.

CDI stands for Concours de Dressage Internationale, or international dressage competition.

The event is used by competitors to measure their progress against an international backdrop.

Mittagong’s Dowsley and Parbery, of Penrose, will be among more than 200 other riders vying for the $40,000 in prize money on offer.

Dowsley said the Sydney CDI 3 was a great opportunity to compete in front of international judges.

“I’ll be riding at least two horses in the small tour at the CDI this year,” he said.

“I have a little black stallion by the name of Don de Sandro and a grey gelding from Victoria that I’ve just recently taken on from one of my pupils down there, Belcam Cadel.”

Parbery will compete with five horses at the event, including his number one choice DP Weltmesiter in the top competition , the grand prix.

He said he had competed in the sport for 17 years and the Sydney CDI had helped dressage grow in Australia.

“It was always the marquee event for us,” Parbery said.

“When the international judges come out, they give us good feedback and we work on it.”
