To be held next weekend, the dance party will bring together young people to shine bright with bodypaint under blacklights.

Leeton Shire Council communityservicesofficer and youth committee facilitatorJackson Gomansaid theconcept was based on an event held by the Yanco-Wamoon Women’s Auxiliary

“Acouple of Leeton Youth Committee members attended and others had heard about it,” Jackson said.

“They thought it was a good event and a really easy event to kick-start the year.”

The blacklight rave concept is a simple one.

“You justcome along dressed in white clothes,” Jackson said. “We’ll have a paint tent, you get covered in paint and then head out onto the dance floor.

“We have ordered proper face and body paint.”

The clothing and paint will show up even brighter under blacklight.

Although the paint is supposed to wash out, it is recommended young people wear older white clothes as there can be no guarantee it will come out.

Music will be provided by DJ Cheese (Anthony Lucchese), which was again the choice of committee members, whileMadonna Placeis central for young people to get to and from.

Leeton Youth Committee was originallyformed to help develop a skate park for the town.It is a sub-committee of council and open for any young people to join.

“The last few meetings we’ve averaged about 12 people,” Jackson said.”There’s a lot of new faces and fresh ideas.

“Looking further ahead at events for the year, we aim to do one per school term.

“This one had to occur during school holidays because that’s when Youth Week is, but we also want to engage the StFrancis and Yanco Ag boarders.”

The NSW governmentprovided agrant for the LeetonYouth Week event, matched by council.

Theblacklight rave will be held at Madonna Place next Friday, April 17, from 6pm to 10pm.

Free and open to young people aged 12 to 25, it is a drug and alcohol-free event.
