Police News: stolen car found at caravan park

■ On Tuesday, March 31 at 10am, a visitor staying at a pub in Oberon overnight had his wallet stolen from his room. The wallet contained a very large amount of cash. A suspect was immediately nominated and police located the suspect soon after in possession of a large amount of cash. An investigation has commenced.

■ On Saturday, March 28 at 5.30pm, an Oberon youth was seen loitering around the side of a shop in the main street of Oberon and acting suspiciously. Police stopped and spoke to the youth, submitting him to a search. Nothing of interest was located and the youth was issued a move on direction. There has been a recent increase in the number of undesirables making Oberon their home and these people will not hesitate to find weaknesses in the security of your business and relieve you of anything that’s not bolted down.

■ On Sunday, March 22 at 2.30pm, a tourist visiting Jenolan Caves was sitting alone at an outdoor table at the cafe and placed her handbag on the seat next to her. She stood to walk into the cafe for a few moments and when she returned to her table her handbag was gone. A report was made to police and an investigation has commenced.

■ On Sunday, March 22 at 4pm, a report was made to police that a 33-year-old Oberon man, who is before the court on numerous charges, has made threats towards several of the prosecution witnesses in his case. The Criminal Justice System of NSW has a zero tolerance policy for any defendant who attempts to interfere with the judicial process. If proven, intimidating witnesses carries a penalty of seven years’ imprisonment. An investigation is underway.

■ On Saturday, March 21 at 4.10pm, Oberon Police and Chifley Highway Patrol attended the Oberon Caravan Park where they located a stolen Mitsubishi ASX station wagon parked next to a caravan. Police entered the caravan and found a 20-year-old Oberon man hiding behind a door. The man was in possession of the key to the stolen vehicle. He was arrested and taken to Oberon Police Station where he was charged with numerous offences. He was refused bail and taken to Bathurst Police Station where he had a sleep-over. He appeared before the bail court at Bathurst the next morning and was granted strict conditional bail.

■ On Wednesday, March 18 at 9am, staff at Oberon High School discovered a broken window and bent louvre on a building within the school grounds. A report was made and police would like anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or Oberon Police on 6336 1000.

■ On Monday, March 16 at 6.50pm, a 20-year-old resident of Oberon Caravan Park returned home to find his caravan had been broken into and his hunting knife stolen. The man reported this to Policelink by calling 131 444. A report was taken over the phone and a job sent for Oberon Police to attend his caravan and conduct an examination of the scene to determine whether or not forensic services should attend. No surfaces were found suitable for forensic examination. Anyone with information about this is urged to contact Crimestoppers 1800 333 000 or Oberon Police on 6336 1000.
