AUTUMN is a time for cool mornings, changing colours and a quietening garden.

This might be the case in some gardens, but not so at Mayfield Garden where things are about to heat up with a number of events on their calendar.

One of the world’s largest privately owned cool climate gardens, Mayfield Garden is a drawcard to regional NSW with its feature garden, the Water Garden, Kitchen Cafè and Nursery open year round.

With an extensive orchard and vegetable patch, the garden staff is kept busy and the cafè well stocked with freshly prepared food.

“At the moment we’re harvesting lots fruit and veggies, and given the abundance we decided an Autumn Harvest Lunch would be a great way to celebrate the flavours of the season,” Mayfield Garden’s spokesperson Karyn Taylor said.

Pumpkins of all shapes and colours, figs, apples and herbs will all make their way from garden to plate for the Autumn Harvest Lunch, with a demonstration of steel forging adding to the entertainment.

“We’re excited to be showcasing some of the more traditional trades as part of our ‘old crafts’ demonstration series, kicking off with steel forging then stone masonry,” Ms Taylor said.

“Visitors to our garden are amazed by the craftsmanship of our stone masons on show in the garden. Hewn blue-stone is a feature throughout the garden and can be found lining long pathways, on the façade of buildings and on bridges.”

Just one week after the Harvest Lunch Mayfield Garden will open the gates to the Private Garden for its annual Private Garden Autumn Open Days.

During this time visitors have the chance to discover the expansive Private Garden beyond the Water Garden with the aviary, walled kitchen garden, rose garden and 80m cascade as key features.

The Autumn Harvest Lunch will be held this Saturday, April 11 from 11am-2pm and costs $110 per person. To book, call 6336 3131.

The Private Garden Autumn Open Days will run from April 18 until May 3, and will be closed on Anzac Day.
